Google Map’s street view feature is now available to the UK, and incredibly has managed to cover 96% (238,000 miles or 383,024 km) of our roads. So, if you want to see pictures of a certain road near where you live, as long as you live in the UK, there is a very good chance of you finding it on Google’s Street View pictures.

Google have amassed the photographs in the small space of time that has passed since March 09, so they have been very busy with their team of camera-rigged cars/ motor-powered tricycles. That’s an achievement in itself, mapping the street view of almost every nook and cranny in the UK.
To avoid any privacy/security issues, Google have also blurred any faces and number plates past recognition, so if you have been worried about privacy due to Google street view, you don’t need to. Most people are considerably exited about this, especially tourism officials, for obvious reasons.
But it’s still early days for street view, and Google is not yet sure if the European Union will let them keep pictures for a full year, or limiting it to 6 months, which will make their job keeping street view up-to-date much harder and much more costly.
