new facebook screenshot design homepage homeAs Facebook celebrates its 6th birthday, they’ve decided to refurbish their site, increasing functionality and ease of use. Most of us have seen the design pictures before and talked about what we wanted it to include. But this morning, when 80 million of the now 400 million users log on to their accounts, they will see the new version of Facebook and its homepage.

That’s not very many of the total users, so most of us will not see the new version of the homepage and site. 320 million of us to be exact. The rest of us may have to wait, but Facebook has commented that all users will be able to obtain access to the revamped site very shortly. There are more options to access so much more information without even leaving the home page. For example, your inbox is now displayed in a box that drops down when you click an icon at the top of your page and the chat and contacts are easier to access. Groups and pages are now accessible directly in the new menu on the left, not through the old apps dashboard that froze up, moved slowly, crashed and occasionally displayed false information.

The pictures that are on the web tell us many things about the updated site, like the new, extremely prominent search bar, positioned in the perfect place to catch your eye, as soon as you sign in. Then there's the function that enables you to check and send inbox messages from a drop-down box on the homepage. Not to mention the new feed display layout with lots of separate categories featured along the left-hand side of the page. They’ve even moved the chat alongside the left edge of the page. It all looks very good, for when we eventually get it.
