The UK online grocery shopping rates are set to soar, over the last few years they have risen by 63%! Researchers predict that UK online grocery shopping percentages will grow to at least 23% of adults by 2011, which is double the current rate at the moment (13% of adults).
This is due to people wanting to order their bulky grocery items and items that are required in higher quantities online and only occasionally stopping at supermarkets for fast perishing items such as fresh chilled meats, dairy and some fruits or vegetables, and items that run out before they are expected to.
As shoppers are starting to lead busier, faster-paced more demanding lifestyles, they will want the ease of online shopping for everything, including their groceries. The way we see it is; the more time we save, the more opportunity we have in our forever accelerating societies.
The online grocery shopping industry in the UK alone is predicted to be worth no less than $11,700,000,000 (£7,174,723,046) by 2014, but online shopping becoming available on more mobile phones may push this figure much higher, as people will be able to fit in a quick shop at any point in the day. Very surprisingly, this will not mean a decrease in shoppers in supermarket stores, in fact it has been forecast that supermarket shopping will increase alongside online grocery shopping as supermarkets are introducing more and more kinds of products and product lines in their stores!
